The 2012 Olympics closed on August 12 with a Closing Ceremony that will stay in our memories forever. With the Olympic flame extinguished, 14,000 athletes have departed London and returned home to share their incredible stories with family and friends.
The debate over “greatest Olympian ever” has had at least two names added to the discussion: Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps. Phelps broke the all-time Olympic medal record, capturing his 18th gold and 22nd overall medals at these Games, while Bolt remained perfect at the Olympics, repeating as the gold medal winner in the 100 m, 200 m and 4x100 m relay events, becoming the first-ever Olympian to win those events in consecutive games.
On the court, Team USA was as dominant as predicted, as the men easily handled Spain despite a close score in the gold medal game. The women were victorious as well, finishing against France.
Overall, the United States was dominant as ever, finishing with 46 gold medals, 29 silver and 29 bronze. That 104-medal total eclipsed China’s 88, and also beat them atop the podium, as China only managed 38 gold medal performances. The Olympic flame has been passed and begins its journey for Sochi, Russia for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, and Bovada will be there with your world-class Olympic betting odds, lines, props and futures.
